Kalaw Trekking (2-Day/1-Night)

 

     Kalaw is a peaceful and quiet hill station and good place for trekking amid twisted pines and harsh mountain scene.

The trekking route leads down into a narrow valley where the Palaung cultivate cheroot, tea, damsons and mangoes on the hillsides. The track across the valley floor and then climbs very steeply again to the Palaung villages, which sits on top of hills. Most Palaungs in the village prefer their traditional way of life, and live in the long houses unique to their tribe.

 

Kalaw - Nawar Taung (6 ½ hrs trek)

Pick-up from hotel in Kalaw, walk to the market with your trekking guide and buy all the provision for your forthcoming 2 days trek and enjoy a walk through the hills. At first a steep track leads up to a view point which offers great views over Kalaw.

 

From there we walk down to Taung Min Gyi, a village of the Pa O tribe. From here the track crosses the valley floor before climbing very steeply again to the Palaung tribe village of Pinnabin. Observe tribal village life and how the Palaung people dry cheroot in a specially designed oven. Pick nick lunch.

Continue walk about 2 hours to Taung Ni, another Palaung village. Continue 1 ½ hours walk up through a steep path to Nawar Taung where we stay overnight at a monastery. In the evening our tour guide cooks a nice dinner. Accommodation at the monastery.

 

Nawar Taung Aung Ban (2 ½ hrs trek)                                       

Simple breakfast. In the morning we leave Nawar Taung and walk down and up to Lowesaung Village (approx. 30). This tour offers endless scenery from a different view with chances to meet Danu, Pa-O and Taungyoe tribes and see them working in the farms. From Lowesaung village we continue to Lwe Maw village which is another 1 hour walk away. Continue walk to Aung Ban (approx. 1 hour).
