Pindaya


Pick-up from Heho Airport and drive to Pindaya (approx. 1 ½ hrs drive) a small quiet town perched on the bank of the placid Botoloke Lake and surrounded by historic and magnificent banyan trees. On the way pass through beautiful landscape with small villages of Pa O, Danu, Taung Yo and other Shan minorities who are earning their living with vegetation and crops. The Pindaya cave, containing thousands of Buddha images in various size and shape are installed since the 11th century. The entire length of the cave is 490 feet and there are numerous stalactites and stalagmites in these limestone caves, from fanciful shapes. Then visit Shan paper and umbrella making from mulberry bark, bamboo hat making. Then drive to Inle Lake (approx. 2½ hours).

 

Kalaw

 

Kalaw - a popular hill station of peaceful and quiet place with an atmosphere reminiscent of the colonial era. The best starting point of trekking to local ethnic tribes villages.

 

Half-day trek to “Pein Ne Bin Palaung Village”

 

Drive to trekking point and start trek to Pein Ne Bin "Palaung village" approx. 1½ hour trek. The unique tribe with multiple families lives in a long house under the same roof. Observe a traditional Palaung hand weaving and cheroot leaf making process. Enjoy a panoramic view of the areas from nearby Pagoda hilltop.

 

Full day trek to Nyaung Gone, Ywa Thit and Tar Yaw

 

Drive to trekking point and start trek to Nyaung Gone village approx. 3 hour trek through pine trees, local village and tribal agriculture activities such as tea plantation, sesame plantation. Continue trek approx. 1 hour to Ywa Thit "Palaung tribe" village. Observe Sebestian leaves plantation for cheroot making and tealeaf making process and proceed 30 min trek to Taryaw Palaung village. Visit local Buddhist monastery and social and cultural exchange with unique Palaung tribal and return to Kalaw approx. 3 hr trek via viewpoint for the over view of Shan plateau.
