Myitkyina is a quiet provincial capital of Kachin State. Manaw festival is celebrated for the Kachin Tribes’ New Year and to show the unity of their different tribes and clans. Thousands of Kachin tribes from nearby villages will be present the festival by wearing their best traditional costume and dance with their music in communal procession. Everybody can join in line behind them. In the Manaw ground, high totems painted in traditional patterns in red, black and white tower over the dancers. The festival will be held from 08 to 11 Jan’10 (4-days). The best dates to participate in the festival are on 09 & 10 Jan.
Myit sone (approx. 2 hours drive from Myitkyina) - the confluence of the May Kha and Mali Kha Rivers marks the beginning of the mighty Ayeyarwady River which flows all the way through Myanmar. It is a nice to take photos with mountains in the distance as background.
Jaw Bun tower offers panoramic view on surroundings - was built in commemoration of 100 years Christianity –since 1877-in Burma.
