Elephant Dance

 

This festival is to pay homage to the ShweTha Hlyaung Tooth Relic Pagoda accompanied by Elephant Dance. Life-size dummy elephants are made of bamboo and paper. Men take their places inside the figure and dance around the town to the accompaniment of Dobat and Drums.

The whole town competes, not only for the best “elephant dance”-performance: traditional & calf dance, but at the same time for the nicest-decorated “elephant”.
