The Theme of this performance is to preserve traditional art forms.
This is precisely the goal of the Pyapon Yama troupe, which for more than 130 years has been organising annual performances of Yama zat daw in Pyapon township in Ayeyarwady Region.
The Ramayana is an ancient Sanskrit epic and considered one of the most important plays in Hindu culture. In Myanmar, it is better known as Yamayana, and several groups of actors put on annual performances, known as Yama zat daw.
Performances start every evening around sundown and last through the night.
