Golden Rock – Bago (2-Day/1-Night)
Yangon – Golden Rock
Drive to Golden Rock - a small stupa placed atop the massive granite boulder Golden Rock which covered with gold leaf, and precariously balanced over the edge of the mountain. It is purported to be held in place, "balanced on hairs of the Buddha". When you arrive Base camp, take the Light truck (approx. 30 minutes up a steep and rough 11-km dirt road), to the up mountain. Then trek to the Top of the mountain (approx. 45 minutes) where the Pagoda is located. Overnight at hotel.
Golden Rock – Bago - Yangon
Breakfast at hotel. Morning trek back to truck terminal, drive down to the base camp. Change the car at base camp, drive back to Bago, (approx. 3 hours drive). Bago city tour of Shwe-tha-lyaung Reclining Buddha, Shwemawdaw Pagoda – the highest pagoda in Myanmar, Shwethahlaung reclining Buddha, Hinthargone Pagoda, Kanbawza Thadi - the famous palace of King Bayinnaung (1551-1581 A.D.) is being extensively excavated and some buildings are being rebuilt, Maha Kalyani Sima, 4-gigantic Buddha images of Kyaik Pun, cheroot making home industry and weaving factory in Mon village. Photo stop at World War II War Cemetery, dedicated to the 27,000 Commonwealth Forces who died in Burma. Then drive Back to Yangon.
